An Open Letter to the Baldwin County Commissioners

Dear Sirs,

I understand that you are due to meet on Tuesday April 13th and on the agenda (Item A-2) is a recommendation to authorize the purchase of advertising for bids for the development of Woodrow Lane as a service road to I-10. (Project #BC0202408).

A review of the previous actions shows that this project has been on the agenda for more than 3 years and seemed to rely heavily on the building of the Mobile Infirmary which has since been canceled.

One thing that seems to be missing from the previous actions is any sort of environmental review.  The proposed road extension would cut through designated wetland areas as well as a number of parcels of land which are zoned as agricultural (reference the Baldwin County Zoning Map).

The area already has three East-West roads which connect the area around the Eastern Shore Center with the BassPro development; one of these roads Hwy 31 is going to be widened  later this year and I believe our tax dollars would be better used maintaining what we already have rather than creating a redundant road to nowhere which would also result in the destruction of hundreds of mature trees and wildlife habitat.

I request you to vote against any recommendation that would aid the progress of this project and to propose a motion that cancels the development completely.

Sincerely,

Wendy Walters.
