Zone C-2: Outdoor Amusement. Special Meeting Called.

At the Daphne Planning Commission meeting on July 22nd a vote on the new zoning map passed unanimously.

This means the recommendation for council to adopt it will be on the agenda at the next City Council meeting.  During the public participation I pointed out that whilst TimberCreek golf course had now been correctly identified as B-2 the course at Lake Forest was still dark green and there was still a key for this titled "Golf Course".  Daphne does not have a "golf course" zone so Cathy Barnette made a motion that the map be revised accordingly before being sent to Council for approval.    I think they dread seeing me in the audience now...!

The new C-2 zone for Outdoor Amusement was discussed again.  For some reason they need to get this completed before August 9th so they are trying to hurry it through.  When this was discussed in June I had asked about re-zoning into a C-2 and was told that it would NOT be a retroactive zone and therefore the TimberCreek Golf Course owners could NOT apply for C-2.  Last night, however, they discussed changing city parks to the C-2 zone so I asked how that was possible.  Ms. Barnette said that they could do that; I asked if the golf course owners could do it and she said YES.

To ensure the C-2 issue gets before council in time they called a special meeting for Thursday July 29th at 5pm.

My view is that we need to show support for the concept of the C-2 zoning as it will help the golf course owner while protecting our investments but we need to ensure that the new zone category can be applied to previously zoned/annexed property.

I asked if public participation would be allowed next Thursday and was told that it was a public meeting so yes, it would be.  I commented on the fact that the timing (5pm) was bad as most people work and would not be able to attend or arrive on time.  I was told that legally all they have to do is give 7 days notice and if people want to attend they need to make their own arrangements.

I don't think we need to have hundreds of people to attend like the TimberCreek Revolution of April 09, but if you are near the Daphne City Hall on Thursday around 5pm I'll see you there.

I am on the committee that is meeting this Thursday. Everything I have seen is a good thing and is not trying to favor anyone. The problem that exists for the Magnolia Course is that to change the zoning of any property, the owner has to request it. The new draft is for future zoning requirements.I hope this is a help.
